Park City

It’s not hard to imagine how Park City got its name. The city is rife with beautiful parks, mountains, resorts, and even a 3,000ft alpine slide - any adult’s ultimate playground.

One of the first things that struck us about Park City was how unbelievably dry it was. The Gobi Desert might be an extreme comparison, but you get the idea. We were also struck by how many outdoor staircases there were scattered amongst the neighborhoods (which we later realized were to give people easy access to the slopes in the winter). Daniel and I are somewhat masochistic so our first thought was how fun those would be to run up later in the week (spoiler alert: we did).

The beautiful runs we did were just a few of the many highlights of Park City. Others included:

  • It’s just absolutely gorgeous. There was not a bad view in town.
  • Super walkable. Our Airbnb was a mile away from downtown which positioned us nicely between restaurants, coffee shops, and other activities. We earned our multiple trips to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, let’s just leave it at that.
  • A super cute downtown. Although expensive as fu$%, downtown Park City is an adorable town with tons of great places to eat at and peruse.
  • Seeing friends. We were able to see our friends Kendal, Elena, and Nello while in Park City, which was awesome! We rode the alpine slide & coaster with Elena and Nello which gave us a great view of Park City and certainly cleared our sinuses!

We also had one particularly dramatic evening here that began with us rushing out the door to the emergency room and ended 20 minutes later at a 7-Eleven. After taking Winnie out to the bathroom one night, I (Ellie) started experiencing very significant chest pain, unlike anything I’ve felt before. Daniel suspected it was heart burn, but after a few minutes it wasn’t getting any better so we looked up the closest emergency room and ran out the door.

But once we got to the car I started to feel better, and I decided it probably was heart burn. So instead of going to the emergency room, we ended up at a nearby 7-Eleven to buy some antacids. That 7-Eleven was henceforth known as “The Pharmacy” to us.

Fortuantely, Winnie sensed my pain and kept a watchful eye on me:

Just kidding, I had salami in my hand when I took this photo.

  • How much we’d like to visit again: 8/10. We would love to come back and take fuller advantage of all the outdoorsy stuff that Park City has to offer.
  • How much we’d like to live here: 4/10. Park City is very expensive, but it’s much closer to civilization than Jackson was. And the pharmacies here sell slurpees!
