Durango

Our last full stop of the trip was Durango, Colorado. This required a 2-day driving sprint from St. Charles, but for these drives we tried something we’re not sure why we didn’t try earlier: audio books.

The first day of the trip we listened to “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie, and we loved it. That drive flew by. On the second day we started listening to “The Lost Symbol” by Dan Brown. It didn’t hook us in quite the same way as Agatha Christie did, but we enjoyed it nonetheless.

On the second drive we also encountered some very unexpected snow and fall foliage. In fact, it was the best fall foliage we’d seen on the trip. This was ironic given that we drove all the way to the northeast in the fall largely to see the colors there.

We really liked Durango itself. Our Airbnb was walking distance to the cute downtown full of shops and restaurants.

We also did a few really beautiful runs in the area. One of them took us inadvertently to a mountain biking trail. The berms and jumps were meant for tires, not feet, but we took advantage of them anyway and had a lot of fun.

We had to leave on a work day, so we found a coworking space to work in for most of the day, where the owner was nice enough to give us an entire conference room for Winnie to walk around. In the late afternoon we took off and headed to our final destination.
