Alpine / Jackson

Gorgeous.

That was the word that kept coming out of our mouths in Jackson, Wyoming.

Expensive.

That was another one.

We left Boise on the 28th for a couple nights in Jackson, Wyoming. Well, not quite Jackson, but rather an RV in a town called Alpine 45 minutes south of Jackson, because that’s the only remotely affordable place we could find in the area.

But it was still a beautiful couple of days.

Jackson is known for a few things. It’s pretty close to two national parks (Grand Teton and Yellowstone), it’s got great skiing in the winter, and it’s got great summery activities in the summer (river rafting, lake stuff, etc.).

We started our one full day there with a hike just outside Grand Teton with Winnie (unfortuantely, dogs aren’t allowed in national parks, but we got close).

We then did a scenic drive through Grand Teton, which gave us many sweeping views of the park and the Tetons themselves. It was during this drive that we started to question the anatomy of the women who inspired the name of this place. Women must’ve just been built different in the 19th century.

It was also during this drive that we realized that Ellie had left her phone in a bathroom along the way. But fortuantely a kind group of bachelorettes found it and managed to return it to us.

Our final stop on this scenic drive was Jenny Lake. We thought this was a pretty boring name for a lake, but the view more than made up for it. “Maybe the most beautiful view I’ve ever seen”, said Ellie.

And finally, Ellie was also very excited by a celebrity encounter we had later in the day. Stephanie March, an actor on Law & Order: SVU (one of Ellie’s favorite TV shows), happened to be sitting at the table behind us at dinner. And Ellie had to snap this photo of her.

The actor in-question is the blonde woman in the back, not the kid on the right or the handsome man in the foreground. (Can you tell who wrote this post?)

  • How much we’d like to visit again: 8/10. We would love to come back (having found a sitter for Winnie) and explore more of what Jackson has to offer. Especially the national parks.
  • How much we’d like to live here: 2/10. Jackson is expensive and far from other civilization. Maybe in retirement though!
